Creating a system for my laundry saved my sanity

I have 4 kids.  4 kids and 2 parents make a lot of laundry.  And, being Type A, piles of laundry don’t work for me.  I work from home, so I have to see it all day.  Hanging out in the corner, giving me the stink-eye all day.

I also live in the forest, where we have a septic system, not on city water/sewer.  If you’ve ever lived on a septic system, you know you have to baby them sometimes, and respect that if you do things wrong, you’re literally up shit’s creek.

That means, you can’t save up your laundry all for one day and marathon through it.  It stresses the septic, and can cause a host of messy issues I don’t want to go into here.

So I developed a simple system for my family.  (a “system” doesn’t always mean computers!)

Two loads per day, starting on Monday, every day, until it’s all done.

We’re able to get all 7-10 loads done easily this way.

How was it easy to figure out?

  1. Define the problem
  2. Research
  3. Plan
  4. Implement
  5. Tweak it when necessary
