Excuse Me?

We all do it to some extent.  Do what...?  We make excuses.  We make up a reason why we can't attend an event.  Or why we can't get our work done...or clean the house...or make money in our business!

Today, we are discussing how to stop the excuse cycle.

1.  Recognize an excuse for what it is.

Often an excuse is just a lie.  Maybe a lie we are telling ourselves it's a truth, but deep down we know we just don't want to do it, whatever IT is.  Remember grade school?  What did we learn in "Getting Along With Others 101?"  Honesty is the best policy.

2. Recognize when excuses are happening.

Pay attention to your own thoughts.  When you start to feel the urge to make an excuse, own it.  Using excuses is like a bad habit.  We do it often without even thinking about it.  When you start to make an excuse, own it as an excuse.

3.  Change your mantra.

Stop the excuse in its tracks.  Now that you recognized it for what it is, stop it from coming out of your mouth.  Change your words.  Instead of, "I can't because I don't have a babysitter," try "Let me try to find a babysitter."  I can't is ALWAYS an excuse- lie, by the way.

4. Change your life.

By changing from "I can't, because" to "I will find a way" your life WILL change.  I promise.  You CAN do whatever you want when you stop using excuses to hold yourself back.

This is one way you can change your life.  Don't underestimate the power of your inner voice.
